A classically trained multi-instrumentalist with over 30 years of music performance and teaching experience, Tommy has played both professionally and recreationally in a wide variety of ensembles ranging from symphonic orchestra to jazz big band, to R&B / Motown and rock cover bands. Besides running around the studio teaching, Tommy can also be found running around the tennis courts at Boyle Park or hiking the trails of Marin with wife, Emily.
Mindy Knight has been singing practically since she could speak. From the age of eight, she sang in choirs and ensembles of every different style. She is a born and raised Texan now living her dreams of coming to California! At the University of North Texas, Mindy studied music education, piano and anthropology in addition to receiving her BA in voice. Her favorite styles to perform are Jazz, Motown, Musical Theater and Folk music, which helped fuel a passion for learning to accompany herself on piano. Mindy believes learning to sing or play an instrument is one of the best ways for kids to express themselves and have fun!
May is a lifelong singer and student of voice. From a musical family, she’s sung everything from classical to rock and roll, from soul to musical theater. She wrote the book and music for the beloved rock opera The Ape Woman, which premiered in 2012 and is now in workshop with Bazaar Productions. Around the Bay Area she can be found performing as David Bowie for the acclaimed tribute band Rebel Rebel, as well as singing her original soul-rock tunes.
A trumpet player since childhood, Matt fell in love with the piano during high school. He received his BA in Music and studied in the Teaching Credential program at Humboldt State University, where he played in just about every type of band possible, from symphony and wind ensemble, to jazz big band and small jazz combos, to Mariachi. He is currently the keyboardist and the horn section in the as-yet-to-be discovered rock cover band, Greek Wooden Buddha, with fellow WOW! teacher, Tommy Toy. In addition to being an avid musician, jamming on songs by his idols like The Beatles and Miles Davis, Matt is an avid explorer of the wonderful North Bay along with his wife, and their two wonderful kids.
Lars Rosager began his musical journey as an infant, showing a strong passion and skill for singing. After years of playing a wide variety of instruments and genres, Lars earned a Master of Arts in Music from San Francisco State University, diving deep into historically informed relationships between the voice and the guitar. Lars loves opening students’ minds to a wide variety of musical cultures and styles, finding a healthy balance between technical command, creativity and music exploration. When he’s not teaching you can typically find Lars gardening and/or chilling with his family!
Joshua James Jackson and his guitar share all the best stories and jokes, the highest highs and the lowest lows of life on the road, and begs the difficult questions like “do we do away with the dewey decimal system?” For the last decade and a half, it’s been easy to find Joshua James Jackson onstage or in a lesson with a bass, a trumpet, or a guitar in his hands. Like a good recipe for chicken JJJ has toured nationally and internationally as a sideman in some of California’s finest bands. Since 2015, JJJ has been piloting the jazz punk outfit Sharkmouth.
Jen grew up on stage performing with her singer/songwriter mom and her sister. She is now an accomplished vocalist with a degree in musical composition and performance from Cornish in Seattle, WA. Experienced in pop, jazz, gospel, blues, folk, musical theater as well as folkloric stylings from around the globe, Jen is a seasoned private music coach, and former musical director, working with a wide range of students. Currently she is working on her original material and is a soloist for the Glide ensemble in San Francisco.
Jacob Gilmore has been surrounded by music from a young age. At the age of 7, he picked up a guitar for the first time. In his early teens however, he started playing the drums, which quickly became his instrument of choice. With a Bachelor’s Degree in Music with a Minor in Electronic Music from UC Santa Cruz, Jacob has played in a wide variety of ensembles, including jazz combos, indie rock bands (most notably Water Color Weekend), metal bands, and funk/hip-hop groups. While he mainly performs as a drum set player, he loves to use his skills on guitar, bass, and piano to write and record his own music. Outside of music, Jacob loves to explore the outdoors, yet also has a love for video games.
“Love what you do entirely and strive always for self-improvement.” These are words that Erik Huang follows and imparts on his students in every lesson at WOW. A graduate of Berklee College of Music, Erik performs and teaches music professionally, well-versed in various styles from jazz and funk to technical metal, electronic, and pop. Erik has performed with bands at Winter NAMM in LA and SXSW in Austin, TX; in 2018, he even did a six-month stint playing shows on a cruise ship every night sailing around Europe to countries like Italy, Spain, France, Greece, and more!
Lindsay has dedicated her life’s work to music education, performing and the music industry. Her diverse background as an on-air radio personality in alternative rock, completing her masters degree in the UK, teaching in Ghana and performing at venues across the U.S. benefits her students in many ways. She believes in cultivating the individual talents and interests of students, while laying a strong foundation of essential skills that will serve them no matter what musical direction they take. Lindsay performs as a dueling pianist, with a regular show at Johnny Foley’s in San Francisco. She also writes and releases original music, which you can listen to on Apple Music & Spotify under her stage name, Lindsay Everly.
